The infamous 'cure-all' Vicks Vaporub didn't work this time

Hey Reader,

Are you good at treating your child's coughs?

I'm not. And neither were my parents back when I was 17 years old with a persistent cough. Not because they didn't care about helping me get better but because they just weren't experts in medicine. I know this because my Mexican parents live by the Vicks Vaporub 'cure-all' ointment.

When I was 17, I had a terrible cough that wouldn't let me sleep. You know, where the moment you lay down on your bed, you cough and cough and cough...

My wonderful parents gave me all the possible cultural remedies: caldo de pollo (chicken soup), lemon tea with miel (honey) and yes, even the 'cure-all' Vicks Vaporub.

After close to two weeks, my cough just didn't get any better. If anything, it kept getting worse.

By now, you might be wondering "How did your cough get better?"

Well, turns out that the traditional Mexican remedies my parents lived by couldn't cure this type of cough.

That's because I didn't have just any annoying flu-induced cough.

My parents scheduled an "emergency" appointment with my pediatrician (which for the record, that was my last visit to my pediatrician as a soon-to-be adult) who prescribed me antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications to help cure my: bronchitis.

I say all this because my parents had the best of intentions to help me get better but they had to move beyond what they knew. They had to seek expert help.

Helping caregivers like yourself move beyond the nutrition knowledge and feeding strategies you've been trying at home to "cure" your vegan feeding challenges is my specialty.

As parents and caregivers, it's hard to do everything and get it "right". You're trying to give your kids the plant foods that'll meet all their nutritional needs, adding spinach to smoothies for your picky eater, and purchasing baby foods to start solids—all to the best of your knowledge.

But you don't have to go through it alone. I'm here to help you.

Because you deserve to skip through all the at-home-remedies (or feeding strategies in this case!) with guidance.

Happy vegan feeding,

Issue #7 | January 2024 Hi Reader, Happy New Year!! I'm writing this email ahead of time as we're visiting family in California. I'm really looking forward to our time there. We're probably enjoying picnics with tortas (Mexican sandwich on a soft roll) or at the park soaking in some sunshine before we head back to our snowy home in Minnesota. Which brings me to the topic of Vitamin D. In today’s e-newsletter, I’m going to share a story from a past client and why supplementing with Vitamin D...
